The Letter from "The Book"
After reading Rodrigo Rey Rosa's "The Book," notice that the man is handed a letter from his friend. What does the letter say? That is up to you. Honoring the integrity of the story, with the details we are given about the plot, please write the short letter that the man is given. It should be between 7-10 sentences, and it should be as creative as possible. Due before the beginning of class, Thursday, 4/5/12. Thank you.

You know what this is about. It is time, you have put this visit off for far too long. It must be done. Come for a visit, and act as if nothing is out of the ordinary. Come as soon as you can, or your opportunity may disappear. I will tell you all of the details when I see you in person, it is too dangerous to disclose them in this letter. I suspect the people you surround yourself with know what is going on, and will try to stop you. Tell them you are visiting your ill mother. Leave now.

ReplyDeleteCome to Ogman. Once you arrive a boy will be waiting for you and you will need to follow him. He will lead you to a blue door, where you will enter, and I will be waiting for you. The walk will be long, interesting, and scary at times, but you have something for me. Something I need. Something you have but are not aware. I hope to see you in a few days. The quicker the better.
You know too much exposition kills a good story, so I'll get right to it: Come see me and don't forget the right amount of money this time. If you do, I'll put you on a boat straight to Ogman, and you know what happens to people there. They don't know the difference between a good joke and a bad prank. And we both know they don't have taxis and you hate to walk. So if you don't have the right amount of money, wear your walking shoes. God knows you need to get out more. You still call a suitcase a "valise." You're not French. Don't waste my time. Real men don't take bubble baths.
ReplyDeleteYou need to get to Ogman as soon as possible. There, you will be greeted by a young boy who will be looking for you. Follow the boy to the house with the blue door. In the house you will be greeted by harmonious music that may overwhelm you. I will be waiting for you in the house. Get here as soon as possible it is urgent, the journey may seem long and confusing at times, but trust me, the news i will bring to you will be worth the trouble.

ReplyDeleteCalmly fill your stomach, pack a bag, and get some money. Next come talk to me so I can prepare you for today. Otherwise your journey consists of many things today. You will get on a boat to Ogman. The port looks like a market so you wont miss it. You wont notice it but a dark skinned boy will expect you to follow him. He will take you on a walk that feels like forever, which actually is 2 hours. This alley will be scary looking but don't hesitate. Y'all will then go through the blue door. What you see next is going to be some weird items that I will not tell you, you will have to experience on your own. With a straight face, keep it up and you will soon be let in through the door by an old man. From there on its all on you. Im not telling you anything else, do as the man says. Good luck to you.
I have come from Ogman and am in town to see you. I had to leave Ogman because of what happened to us a few days ago. I do not believe I need to disclose my name or location (The usual hotel) in this letter because you know who this is. My passion for you has no limits. I need to see you while we have the chance! Not only will we fulfill all of our hearts desires, but we must discuss business. He is still after me, and I need to make sure we get this over with. Bring the money with you tonight, and we will discuss more details later. I love you!

ReplyDeleteYou need to make a journey to Ogman. Go to the port in the city in Ogman. While you are at the port, a young man will meet you. Follow the boy until you get to the door with a white wall. Do not be scared. Once inside, follow the old man's order. He will bring you something to drink. The curtain will begin to move, as it moves you need to get up from your chair and see what is behind the curtain

I cannot disclose the details to you in this letter in case it falls into the wrong hands, but I can say that you will be returning to Ogman. You must visit me tomorrow for the rest of the details. ReplyDeleteI have fallen ill again. This time, I fear, it will be for the last time. I can feel the strength leaving my body with each passing moment. If I could have but one thing before I go, it would be to see you once more. Please fulfill my final wish. I know that things have been uneasy for us in recent years, but there is something that I must tell you, a secret. It cannot die with me.
Do not waste your time, Ogman needs you. It has been rather long since you have last made an appearance here, and everyone is waiting for you. Do not be afraid. I know that the past times have made you scared to once again come here, but I will help you. I will make sure nothing happens to you, but the boy needs to see you.

Make your way to Ogman immediately. Upon arrival, follow the young boy by the lamp post. I'd like to see you, for we have much to discuss. Tell no one you're coming and stay quiet. While you're following the boy, he may attempt to talk to you. Stay quiet throughout the walk. He'll take you to a house. I want you to walk in.

I am growing old and need to give you my secrets in life. This information is way too valuable to transfer via some insignificant piece of paper. I need to see your face and tell you with audible words of what is needed to be said about life. I have cooked my favorite meal.
